Pirate Halloween Costume

Hey Halloween’s not just for kids. Adults can enjoy the festivities too and going to a fancy dress party is a popular way to do this. If a party is on your agenda this Halloween then selecting a costume might be on your mind. Adult pirate costumes are a great choice and have proved to be a firm favorite for many years.

Let’s face it most men have wanted to dress up as a pirate more often than they would care to admit. Maybe this goes back to their childhood or maybe it is the carefree image that we have of pirates from the golden age of piracy. This has been cemented by the hugely successful pirates of the Caribbean films that are essentially light hearted romps that paper over the reality of the time where pirates were violent, brutal and had the reputation that we hold for modern day pirates.

And this light hearted image of pirates is what people like to remember today. Maybe it is because of the clothes. When it comes to pirate costumes there are a wide range to choose from.

There are men’s and women’s costumes. The mens costumes tend to range from popular characters like Jack Sparrow and Captain Hook through to general pirate outfits. General pirate outfits for a man include pirate captains costumes and the rest of the crew. Most of these costumes come in standard and plus sizes. When it comes to selecting your costume you can be as original of stereotypical as you like. Most people going to fancy dress parties want to be recognized so to some extent you need to play up the stereotypes. You can even go as far as to wear an eye patch, a hook for a hand and a cheeky parrot on your shoulder.

And the ladies are not left out either when comes to dressing as a pirate. Female pirate costumes tend to have three themes.

The first is the pirate costume itself. This is similar to the male costume put designed to look good on a woman. So a skirt might replace pants and the puffy white shirt might be replaced by a shoulder less option. You’ll look like a pirate but you’ll still have an element of femininity  that will turn a few heads.

The second option for women tends to be wench type costumes. These are a mix of pirate and serving wench outfits that, if you could be transported back to the golden age of piracy in a time machine, you may have seen a woman in a bar or inn wearing. Obviously with a few modern alterations.

The third option is purely a sexy pirate outfit. It’s basically to knock the socks off your guests or fellow party goers. Typically these outfits include short skirts and tight, bust revealing corsets. They might have a eye patch with a jolly roger symbol on them to add a bit of fun to the costume. But make no mistake these costumes are designed to make a lasting impression on anyone that has the pleasure to see you dressed in them.
